Welcome to the first time I've ever made an Angel Food Cake. And what a filling and yummy cake it is. I used a recipe from my grandmother, funnily enough she never actually used it. Low and behold I've come along and given it life. With the help of my Mini Baking Boatswain.
We had a wonderful time mixing the (8 Medium egg whites), making sure we mixed to perfection of a light and fluffy mixture that drops almost like fluffy snow off the whisk. We used a lot plain flour that Luke was covered in after adding to the bowl with the icing sugar as well. We added 150 grams of plain flour and 100 grams of icing sugar.
with a pinch of cream of tartar and a whole lot of sugar ( 250 grams) and a drop of vanilla essence to make the cake taste richer.
of adding delicious strawberries to the finished product. I wanted it to be really fluffy so I ensured the egg whites where not too stiff after whisking but gently fell away from the whisk almost like snow.
I kept it in the oven until it was a lovely golden brown. Using a silicone bunt ( first time using)
Such an easy recipe and yet such a beautiful outcome.
I feel as though its one of my best decorated ( Very Simple) Please see pictures and recipe below
ENJOY !!!!
RECIPE for a light and fluffy yet slightly moist Angel Food Cake
175g plain flour...1 tablespoon cornflour.....350g caster sugar......1/4 teaspoon salt......350ml egg whites.....1 teaspoon cream of tartar (you can buy in sachets already measured out to a teaspoon)....1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract.....1/2 teaspoon almond extract
Step 1. grease a bunt tin or silicone one if using. Measure out the egg whites in a measuring jug to that of 350ml, then pour into a large bowl. Beat the eggs until fluffy and as mentioned fall away from the whisk like snow.
Step 2. This step is a little tricky and can be time consuming but once you get into it its actually quite therapeutic. Sieve the flour, Cornflour, Sugar & Salt into a separate bowl and repeat sieving 3 times until really fine almost fine enough for dusting
Step 4. slowly mix the dry ingredients into the fluffy snowlike eggs. Once fully combined add the mixture to a greased tin
Step 5. Place into a cold oven and turn to gas mark 170 C Gas 3
Let the cake bake for roughly an hour.
When its a a lovely golden brown colour take out and leave for a couple of minutes then turn out onto a wired rack.
I decorated mine with a light dusting of icing sugar and places strawberries in the grooves
